The Torch of Wisdom: From 1913 to 2026, Still Lit!

I didn’t forget about our weekly post. This week, I paused with intention to celebrate Founders Day alongside my Sorors and to reflect on the extraordinary impact of the women of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated.

Moments like this invite gratitude and perspective. To be a Delta is to be part of a lineage of movers, shakers, visionaries, truth-tellers, and builders. Women who disrupt the norm not for attention, but for the betterment of those around them. Women who lead with conviction, clarity, and purpose…

Oh, to be a part of that number.

From 22 Women to a Global Legacy

Delta women are everywhere—and always have been. From politics to education, from entrepreneurship to arts and entertainment, from boardrooms to classrooms; Delta women shape systems, challenge power, and move culture forward. That didn’t happen by accident.

It started in 1913 with 22 visionary women at Howard University who were clear about their mission and bold enough to act on it. Those founders laid the groundwork for generations of leaders to follow. Leaders like Shirley Chisholm, whose courage and conviction redefined what political leadership could look like. Today, we see that same throughline in leaders like Jasmine Crockett, who continue the tradition of Political Awareness & Involvement via advocacy, legal rigor, and unapologetic truth-telling in public service. You see it in media and commentary through voices like Joy Reid and Abby Phillip, shaping national conversations with depth, context, and accountability.

Different generations. Different platforms. Same foundation.

Programs That Build Leaders, Not Just Résumés

That foundation didn’t stop with individual success. It scaled through intentional leadership development. Initiatives such as Dorothy Height Leadership Institute and programs such as Delta G.E.M.S exist because Deltas have always understood the assignment. Empowerment is not accidental. It is taught, modeled, and sustained.

These programs don’t just prepare women to succeed. They prepare women to lead with purpose, confidence, and responsibility. And they inspired me to do the same—just in my own way.

How I Carry The Torch

Being a Delta woman deeply influences how I move and how I build. I’ve started two businesses, each rooted in the same belief that systems should work for people, not the other way around.

The Dezonie Collective (TDC) exists to disrupt the norm in how organizations think about people, talent, and culture. We bring a strategic, human-centered lens to workforce design—helping companies attract, develop, and retain talent by creating environments where people actually feel included, valued, and seen. Not performatively, but structurally.

And then there’s Woman TF Up®a movement. A movement about empowerment, self-trust, boundaries, and growth. Through books, podcasting, speaking, storytelling, merchandise, and community, Woman TF Up is a movement that challenges women to show up fully, take ownership of their lives, and rise without apology. It’s not about perfection. It’s about becoming.

Two businesses. One throughline.

Purpose over performative progress.

Oh, to Be a Part of that Number!

To be a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated is a blessing I don’t take lightly. It’s an honor to be part of a sisterhood that has never shied away from impact, responsibility, or change.

This legacy doesn’t sit on a shelf—it lives through the work we do today.

And I’m proud to be doing my part.
